Trauma-Informed Psychologist

Psychological Support for Road Trauma and Driving Anxiety

SIRA Registered

At Safe2Go Driver Rehab, our trauma-informed psychologist provides psychological support for clients affected by motor vehicle accidents, CTP claims, workplace injuries, medical events, and other experiences that may impact confidence, emotional wellbeing, and the ability to return to driving safely.

For many people, the impact of a motor vehicle accident or injury goes far beyond physical recovery. Road trauma can affect confidence, independence, work capacity, family responsibilities, social engagement, and a person’s overall sense of safety. Clients may experience driving anxiety, panic, hypervigilance, avoidance behaviours, emotional distress, low confidence, adjustment difficulties, or trauma responses that interfere with everyday life and return to driving.

Our psychologist works with clients in a safe, respectful, and supportive way to help them understand and manage the psychological effects of trauma and injury. Support is tailored to the individual and may help clients process distressing experiences, reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, rebuild confidence, and strengthen coping strategies during recovery.

Psychological support may assist with:

  • Driving anxiety and fear of driving
  • Trauma responses following a motor vehicle accident
  • Hypervigilance, panic, and avoidance behaviours
  • Loss of confidence after road trauma or injury
  • Adjustment difficulties following injury or changes in function
  • Emotional distress affecting return to driving
  • Psychological barriers impacting independence and community access
  • Support alongside OT driver assessment and driver rehabilitation
  • CTP and WorkCover-related psychological presentations
  • SIRA registered

Our psychologist uses evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based strategies, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Therapy is guided by a trauma-informed framework that prioritises emotional safety, trust, collaboration, empowerment, and practical progress.

This service is designed to complement the broader Safe2Go Driver Rehab model, working alongside Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Driver Trainers to support clients whose recovery involves both psychological and functional barriers. Our aim is to support not only return to driving, but also improved confidence, emotional wellbeing, independence, and participation in everyday life.
