GPs & Allied Health Referrers
For patients whose recovery has stalled around driving
For referrers
Safe2Go accepts referrals from GPs, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other treating practitioners — for driver rehabilitation, and for psychological services independently of any driving program.
When to refer
The patient who has stopped driving
Driving avoidance after an accident is easy to miss in a consultation. Patients rarely present with it. It emerges incidentally — they mention a partner drives them now, or that they have not been to an appointment across town in months, or that they have quietly given up work that required a commute.
By the time it surfaces, the avoidance is often well established, and the functional consequences have compounded: reduced independence, social withdrawal, loss of employment, increased reliance on family.
This is a treatable presentation, and it responds well to a combined psychological and graded on-road approach. It responds poorly to ordinary driving lessons, which is where these patients are frequently sent first.
Presentations we commonly receive
- Post-MVA patients with driving phobia, panic while driving, or complete avoidance
- PTSD or acute stress following a road trauma, as driver, passenger or pedestrian
- Generalised anxiety or panic disorder where driving is a significant avoided situation
- Patients with medical conditions or functional change raising genuine questions about driving safety
- Post-injury patients where return to driving is the outstanding functional goal
- Patients requiring formal occupational therapy driver assessment for capacity questions
What we provide
Two distinct referral options
1. Psychological services on their own. Our registered psychologist provides assessment and individual therapy for anxiety, trauma, PTSD and post-accident adjustment. This does not require the patient to enter a driving program at any stage, and is available in person, by Telehealth or by Zoom. For many referrers this is the whole referral.
2. Driver rehabilitation. Where returning to driving is the goal, we provide OT driver assessment, graded on-road rehabilitation and exposure therapy, with psychological support integrated where indicated.
Patients can move between the two, or begin with one and never need the other. We assess and advise rather than enrolling everyone in the same pathway.

Practicalities
Making a referral
How. Phone 1800 867 277, email admin@safe2go.com.au, or use the enquiry form. A formal referral letter is welcome but not essential for private patients.
Funding. We work with CTP claims, WorkCover, case-managed rehabilitation plans, and private clients. If your patient was injured in a motor vehicle accident in NSW, treatment may be funded through CTP even where no claim has yet been lodged — we can advise on this.
Communication. With patient consent, we provide assessment findings and progress correspondence back to the referrer. Tell us what you need and in what form.
Geography. We cover most of NSW and travel to the patient. Psychological services are available remotely, which is often decisive for patients whose presenting problem is that they will not drive.

Call 1800 867 277 to talk through whether Safe2Go is appropriate before you refer. We are happy to advise even where the answer is no.
